Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship 'Covenant' discovers what is thought to be an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world—which has a sole inhabitant: the 'synthetic', David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

- Some scenes were filmed in Sydney, Australia, at the Fox studio.
- Rebecca Ferguson was initially considered for the lead role, but Katherine Waterston was ultimately cast.
- The androids David and Walter were named after producers David Giler and Walter Hill.
- David lifts a damaged embryo with forceps, with a pool of blood visible underneath. The next shot shows the embryo's place to be clean.
- Ridley Scott announced on November 27, 2015, that "Alien: Covenant" would be the first part of a new "Alien" trilogy, and that the trilogy's plot would be closer to the first "Alien" film (1979).
