What's left behind the scenes
- Upon its release, the film "The Rainmaker" was the only film based on a John Grisham story that wasn't an adaptation of his works. Grisham wrote the screenplay for it.
- Another person is credited as the screenwriter. John Grisham used a pseudonym in protest against the profanity that director Robert Altman (1925-2006) added to the dialogue.
- Robert Altman's director's cut did not impress audiences, so PolyGram Filmed Entertainment re-edited the film. It turned out even worse, and they had to restore Altman's version.
