Short description
A prequel to the first two Underworld films, this fantasy explains the origins of the feud between the Vampires and the Lycans. Aided by his secret love, Sonja, courageous Lucian leads the Lycans in battle against brutal Vampire king Viktor. Determined to break the king's enslavement of his people, Lucian faces off against the Death Dealer army in a bid for Lycan independence.
What's left behind the scenes
- In some instances, the Lycans in this film lose only the upper half of their heads. This is because the special effects artists reused the makeup applied to William, played by Brian Steele, in Len Wiseman's horror film 'Underworld: Evolution' (2005).
- Rhona Mitra auditioned for the role of Selene in Len Wiseman's horror film 'Underworld' (2003), but the role went to Kate Beckinsale. When casting began for this film and Mitra was considered, concerns were raised about the feasibility of the decision due to the physical resemblance between her and Beckinsale. It was then mentioned that Viktor (played by Bill Nighy) turned Selene into a vampire specifically because of her resemblance to Sonia, played by Mitra, thus turning a drawback into an advantage.
- During the filming of this movie, Ron Howard approached Michael Sheen (who played Lucian) and asked him to record a few lines for the role of Frost in the biographical drama 'Frost/Nixon' (Ron Howard, 2008). Sheen, covered in fake blood, went to his trailer and recorded the required lines. Sheen asked someone from the crew to take a photo of him during the recording and then sent the photo to Howard. Howard printed the photo and put it in a frame.
