• Jane Fonda was initially invited for the role of the main character. At one point, she demanded some changes to the script written by Joe Eszterhas, he objected, and the studio preferred to side with him in the dispute, replacing Fonda with Glenn Close.
• There's an urban legend about the existence of an alternative ending with a different killer. No such alternative ending actually exists, but the original finale was reshot due to complaints from viewers who claimed the killer's face was shown unclearly. Initially, the killer's face without a mask was shown in 18 frames, i.e., less than a second of screen time. Later, another 9 seconds were added to the revised version, and the killer's face was shown clearly.
