What's left behind the scenes
- The film was shot as secretly as possible on the streets of New York and was known by the official title “Untitled Digital Workshop.”
- Director Baumbach shot the film in black and white to create a sense of history and a kind of instant nostalgia.
- Charlotte d’Amboise, who played the head of the dance company Frances (her character describes herself as a former dancer), is actually a well-known Broadway dancer. She is also the daughter of Jacques d’Amboise, a choreographer for the New York Ballet.
- Frances’ parents were played by Greta Gerwig’s real parents.
- At the end of the film, when Frances writes her name for the mailbox, you can notice that “Ha” – the second half of the original film title (Frances Ha) – stands for Halladay.
