Short description

This documentary follows various migratory bird species on their long journeys from their summer homes to the equator and back, covering thousands of miles and navigating by the stars. These arduous treks are crucial for survival, seeking hospitable climates and food sources. Birds face numerous challenges, including crossing oceans and evading predators, illness, and injury. Although migrations are undertaken as a community, birds disperse into family units once they reach their destinations, and every continent is affected by these migrations, hosting migratory bird species at least part of the year.

What's left behind the scenes

  • To ensure the birds weren't frightened by the sounds made by people and film cameras, the filmmakers began acclimating some birds to them even before they hatched from their eggs.
  • The episode in which a goose gets stuck in an industrial settling pond was deliberately staged by the filmmakers. The bird was immediately freed after the episode was filmed.
  • However, the episode with the injured tern surrounded by crabs was not pre-planned. The bird was rescued by the film crew immediately after filming – almost at the last moment.
