Short description
Wealthy businessman Zsa-zsa Korda appoints his only daughter, a nun, as sole heir to his estate. As Korda embarks on a new enterprise, they soon become the target of scheming tycoons, foreign terrorists, and determined assassins.
What's left behind the scenes
- Benicio Del Toro agreed to play J.J. Corda after reading 20 pages of script sent to him by director, writer, and producer Wes Anderson. The excerpt concerned his character and his daughter.
- Phoenicia is a region encompassing Lebanon and Syria. The fictional Phoenicia referenced in this project roughly corresponds to the same region within the borders it held in the first half of the 20th century, i.e., including French Algeria, the Suez Canal, Egypt, and the Mediterranean.
- This is the first film directed, written, and produced by Wes Anderson to be shot by Bruno Delbonnel instead of Robert D. Yeoman, who usually collaborates with Anderson. Yeoman was busy filming Kwame Kwei-Armah’s biographical drama 'The Collaboration'.
- Wes Anderson noted that the films of Spanish director and screenwriter Luis Buñuel had a significant influence on him while working on 'The Phoenician Scheme'.
