Short description
Sam Bowden witnesses a rape committed by Max Cady and testifies against him. When released after 8 years in prison, Cady begins stalking Bowden and his family but is always clever enough not to violate the law.
What's left behind the scenes
- The hotel where Max Cady beats Diana is the “mother’s house” from Hitchcock’s film “Psycho” shot two years earlier. In both films, Martin Balsam played the detective who arrived at the crime scene.
- During the final fight, Gregory Peck, getting into character, hit Mitchum so hard that he felt ill for several days afterward. Mitchum later said he wouldn’t envy the fool who would actually decide to fight Peck.
