Short description

Robinson Crusoe flees Britain on a ship after killing his friend over the love of Mary. A fierce ocean storm wrecks his ship and leaves him stranded by himself on an uncharted island. Left to fend for himself, Crusoe seeks out a tentative survival on the island, until he meets Friday, a tribesman whom he saves from being sacrificed. Initially, Crusoe is thrilled to finally have a friend, but he has to defend himself against the tribe who uses the island to sacrifice tribesman to their gods. During time their relationship changes from master-slave to a mutual respected friendship despite their difference in culture and religion.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The film was shot in 1994 and was intended to be a standard television project for the Hallmark channel. When production was already completed, Miramax studio became interested in it, bought the rights, and planned a theatrical release, hoping to make a good profit after Pierce Brosnan was announced as the new James Bond. All these plans remained unfulfilled, and the American premiere did not take place until 2001 on one of the television channels.
  • The day before filming began, on June 8, 1994, Pierce Brosnan was presented to the press as the new James Bond at the Regent Hotel in London. At this event, he already appeared before the public with a striking, characteristic beard reminiscent of Robinson Crusoe.
  • The film's producers asked Pierce Brosnan to stay for a few extra days beyond the scheduled timeframe. The actor was offered a bonus to his fee, but he requested and received a new Porsche 911 Carrera sports model instead.
  • Sean Brosnan, then eleven-year-old son of Pierce Brosnan and Cassandra Harris, played a small role as a ship's boy in the film.
