- The working title of the film was "Greed."
- Initially, director and screenwriter Oliver Stone introduced a storyline into the script involving a romance between Fox, played by Charlie Sheen, and the wife of Gordon Gekko, played by Michael Douglas (and this circumstance explained Gekko's attitude towards Fox in the final confrontation), but was forced to abandon this idea due to the mutual dislike between Sheen and the actress Sean Young, who played Kate Gekko.
- Actor Martin Sheen, who played Carl Fox, Bud Fox's father, is Charlie Sheen's real father.
