Short description

Semi-autobiographical film directed by Franco Zeffirelli, telling the story of young Italian boy Luca's upbringing by a circle of English and American women, before and during World War II.

What's left behind the scenes

The battle scenes towards the end of the film are borrowed from Richard Attenborough's (1923-2014) war drama “A Bridge Too Far” (1977).
Crying, Eliza smeared all her makeup. Right before fleeing, her hairstyle is completely disheveled. When she awaits the ship's arrival, her hairstyle is perfect, her makeup is flawless, and her eyes are not red from tears at all.
