Short description

Unveiled through a made-for-TV documentary, five chilling tales of found footage horror emerge to take viewers on a gore-filled journey through the grim underbelly of the forgotten 1980s.

What's left behind the scenes

  • According to Scott Derrickson, the plot of the film he directed takes place in the universe of his horror film 'The Black Phone'.
  • The plot of 'God of Death' is inspired by the real 1985 earthquake in Mexico City. Director Gigi Sol Guerrero said she wanted to make a story about an event instantly recognizable in Mexico. And a minor earthquake was recorded during filming.
  • Ada Lovelace (Chivonne Michelle) is a reference to Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace (1815-1852). Through her communication with Charles Babbage, she described a calculating machine he designed in 1843. She left an algorithm for calculating Bernoulli numbers. She is considered the first programmer in history.
  • The lake in the corresponding segment is called Evig. Evig translates from Norwegian as “eternal,” and the segment discusses the water in the lake having the ability to revive the dead.
  • Briefly shown between segments is the American shock rock band Gwar, performing in monster costumes. The band member shown on screen was not yet part of the group in 1985. Guitarist and backing vocalist Mike Derks, nicknamed Balsac the Jaws of Death, only joined the band in 1988.
