Short description

A bored and domesticated Shrek pacts with deal-maker Rumpelstiltskin to get back to feeling like a real ogre again, but when he's duped and sent to a twisted version of Far Far Away—where Rumpelstiltskin is king, ogres are hunted, and he and Fiona have never met—he sets out to restore his world and reclaim his true love.

What's left behind the scenes

After escaping from Rumplestiltskin’s castle, Donkey says to Shrek, “I won’t ask why you’re so sad… but why are you so sad?” This is a parody of the Joker’s line in the film *The Dark Knight* (2008), where the Joker, while talking about his father, says, “Why so serious?”
In the finale, on the shelf where Shrek placed the book, you can notice another book with the title of the next animated film – *Puss in Boots* (2011).
The animated film *Shrek the Third* (2007) shows the Gnome-Tihogrom (this is how Rumplestiltskin is called), but he looks different. The Pied Piper also appeared in the animated film *Shrek* (2001), when fairytale creatures ran to Shrek’s swamp, and he looked different there too.
